Homeowner Shoots Intruder in Northwest Miami-Dade Early Tuesday Morning

Police and fire crews responded to an early morning shooting outside a Northwest Miami-Dade home as a result of a botched home invasion.

Officials confirmed that they did take one person to the hospital as a result of the shooting at the home, located off Northwest 2nd Avenue and 142nd Street shortly after 5 AM. Police say the suspect, a 22-year-old, tried to force his way into the home when he was shot by the homeowner.

That suspect was taken to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. The homeowner and his family, including wife and kids, were not hurt in the incident.

The home owner did not want to speak with reporters, but neighbors say they have had similar problems at their homes.

This latest shooting comes one day after a Sunrise man shot at three people who broke into his home, killing one of the robbers. The other two were later caught and are now being charged with both burglary and murder - which happens under Florida law since the third man was killed.
