Homes Evacuated After Car Reported to Have Bomb

Multiple police agencies, including a bomb squad, were called out to Lauderhill after a caller claimed a car had a bomb inside of it.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the incident started near Commercial Boulevard and the Florida Turnpike. Broward Sheriff’s Deputies received a call about a bomb and responded to the area.

When they arrived, the driver of the car took off and ended up driving to Lauderhill, BSO said.

Deputies said the driver jumped out of his car along 55th Avenue and that’s when the bomb squad was called in. While the bomb squad was working, multiple homes nearby were evacuated as a precaution.

The BSO set up a perimeter that spanned 10 blocks as they searched for the suspect. Law enforcement hasn't said if the suspect was captured or if anything was found in the car.

Residents were allowed back into their homes when the scene was finally cleared around 10 p.m.
