Homestead Police Investigate Attempted Child Abduction

Homestead Police are looking for a man who tried to abduct a child Friday afternoon outside a school.

According to police, the boy was waiting for his mom when a man in a gray older model Nissan Altima approached him outside Miami Arts Charter School. The man reportedly told the boy "hey kid, your mom wants me to come pick you up."

The child told the man he was going to call his mom first, and then the man drove off.

The boy called his mother and walked back to the school and told staff members what had happened.

"My son automatically called me and ran it by me and said 'mom, there is a strange man here, he has come to get me,'" said the boy's mother, who didn't want to be identified. "He was very calm until I told him he needed to get someone immediately."

Police describe the suspect as a white male approximately 45 to 55 years of age. They say he is heavy set with medium to long gray hair. The suspect also reportedly has moles or black spots all over his face, and has varicose veins on his arms and wrinkles near his eyes.

The man was wearing a black baseball cap and dark sunglasses.

His vehicle is described as a 1992 or 1993 gray Nissan Altima with dark tints, rust on the bottom passenger side, chipped paint and bumper damage.

"Fortunately for us we are a military family and we are very close and he knows protocol, he knows what to do in the event that somebody approaches him," the mother said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
