Horses Injure Two in Separate Incidents

Girl expected to be OK, but woman in critical condition

A 7-year old girl and an unidentified woman were taken to a hospital Tuesday after they were injured horseback riding in separate incidents in Southwest Ranches.

The accidents happened just blocks apart, officials said.

The little girl was trampled by the horse she was riding at a stable located at 5301 block of SW 198 Terrace. The girl somehow struck her head, but remained conscious, Broward Sheriff's Office said.

She was taken to Memorial West Hospital as a precaution, but she is expected to be okay.

A few hours earlier, a woman was thrown from her horse and sustained serious injuries after she struck her head on the ground, officials said.

Officials said the woman's horse was "spooked," which caused the freak accident.

She is listed in critical condition.
