    Authorities found horse remains in Miami.

    A horse was found slaughtered in the area of NW 179th Street and Okeechobee Road in Miami-Dade County Wednesday, officials said.

    Investigators with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals came across the horse remains while investigating a case of malnourished horses. They said the carcass had been there for about a week.

    Police are investigating after the partial remains of a slaughtered horse were found in a rural area of Miami-Dade Monday. Richard Couto, an investigator for the Animal Recovery Mission, spoke about how hard it is to find the perpetrators.

    Officials told NBC 6 the horse was likely a racing thoroughbred from a local racetrack.

    It is not known why the horse was slaughtered.
