Here's another reason to hate the Miami Heat and this one might actually be legit.
30 people on the Heat's season ticket sales staff were fired Friday because there were no more tickets to sell. The Heat sent out a statement saying that the team no longer needed a sales team because there was nothing left to sell.
"While the decision to release part of our sales force was a difficult one, we greatly appreciate their contributions to the company,'' the statement said. "We have also hired a placement service to assist those individuals find new employment."
Essentially, the pink slips can be attributed directly to LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
The New Big Three caused such a frenzy that season tickets were sold out within hours, leaving sales reps for the past few weeks twiddling their thumbs and tweeting about those same thumbs. The most work anyone had was adding names to the list of thousands who were waiting for open season tickets come 2014.
While the move makes business sense - why pay someone for doing nothing? - it seems a bit cold considering the entire organization, including the sales staff, was encouraged to beg D-Wade to stay in Miami and bring some friends along.
Could this be the "Curse of LeBron" that Cavs owner Dan Gilbert warned of?
First, a guy wearing a James Heat jersey gets booted out of a baseball game and now these people are jumping into the unemployment line.
Maybe these folks were cap casualties, but it would appear that something could have been done to keep them employed in the organization or at least give them a parade for making sure the seats were sold out.
At this point it's hard to disagree with the rest of the haters that the Heat are cold-blooded.
