Hurricane Kate Forms Far Out to Sea in the Atlantic

Hurricane Kate has formed in the Atlantic far out to sea north of Bermuda, becoming the fourth hurricane of the Atlantic season.

The hurricane's maximum sustained winds early Wednesday are near 75 mph (120 kph).

Kate is centered about 625 miles (1006 kilometers) northeast of Bermuda and is moving northeast near 45 mph (72 kph).

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says swells from Kate are affecting Bermuda on Wednesday, likely causing life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
