Hurricanes Fall to Unranked Tar Heels

The Hurricanes suffered a tough defeat on Saturday when they fell to unranked UNC

The Miami Hurricanes were beaten 20-13 by the unranked University of North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday.

Miami entered the game ranked 16th in the nation and is sure to see that number fall after this loss. The Hurricanes blew a lead last week against Florida State, and had a late extra point blocked that likely would have sent the game to overtime. In this game UM looked lifeless at times, which may have been a carryover effect from the loss against FSU.

The game started bad for Miami and it never turned around. North Carolina opened up a 10-0 lead after one quarter of play. Going into the locker room at the half, UM found itself down 20-3 and in need of a comeback in the second half. That comeback attempt would fail however, and the Hurricanes ended up on the losing end of the contest.

Brad Kaaya ended up 16-31 on his pass attempts for 224 yards. Miami's quarterback threw no touchdown passes, and was not picked off during the game. It was Kaaya's least productive game of the season thus far after entering the contest with 10 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. With his team only down by a TD and under two minutes remaining, Kaaya fumbled the ball. UNC recovered to seal the victory.

UM's lone TD of the day came on the ground when Joseph Yearby ran it in for six points. The touchdown was the sixth of the season for Yearby and was part of a 74 yard day.

Miami will have a short week of rest before taking on Virginia Tech on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
