Miami defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad has been suspended from the university for the semester over an off-the-field disciplinary matter.
The Hurricanes did not play Muhammad in either of their first two games this season, meaning he will not lose a year of eligibility. Muhammad was allowed to practice with the team while university officials assessed whether he violated Miami's code of conduct by getting into an altercation with another student last spring.
Miami defines such a suspension as a "complete separation from the university." Muhammad cannot attend classes until the suspension is lifted after the fall term.
Muhammad had eight tackles and two sacks in 13 games for Miami last season.
The native of Irvington, New Jersey, was a highly regarded recruit from perennial high school power Don Bosco Prep.
