Hurricanes Take Care of Rattlers for First Win

The Hurricanes came away with their first victory of 2014 with their 41-7 win on Saturday

The Miami Hurricanes beat the Florida A&M Rattlers 41-7 on Saturday to earn their first win of the 2014 season.

While the margin of victory wasn't close, Miami was expected to win by an even larger amount. The last time that the Rattlers took on the Hurricanes, Miami came away with a 45-0 win. That contest was in 2010.

A week after throwing two interceptions against Louisville, Brad Kaaya threw another two in this one. Kaaya also added a pair of touchdown passes as part of a 177-yard day where he was 12-22 on pass attempts. With the game not in the balance, Kaaya was rested in the fourth quarter.

The running game was effective for the Hurricanes with 198 yards coming on the ground as well as three touchdowns. Duke Johnson contributed 97 of the yards and also one of the touchdowns. One of the running plays for Johnson was good for 55 yards itself. Joseph Yearby had 95 yards himself while the other touchdowns were taken in by Gus Edwards and Trayone Gray.

Both of the touchdowns thrown by Kaaya were caught by Phillip Dorsett who caught three passes in all for 44 yards. In all Miami tallied 218 yards by its receivers with the bulk going to Braxton Berrios who had 63 yards.

The Hurricanes puts up double digits in every quarter with the exception of the third where they only tallied a field goal. Matt Goudis who nailed that kick was 2-4 on his field goal attempts

Miami will host Arkansas State next Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
