2 husbands shoot wives in southwest Miami-Dade: Police

Police believe two husbands shot and killed their wives before turning the gun on themselves in two separate incidents in Southwest Miami-Dade Sunday.

The first incident happened at a home in the 14000 block of Southwest Circle Avenue East in Country Walk, according to Miami-Dade Police.

Police say Luis Yrigoyen, 69, shot wife Mireya Yrigoyen, 65, before he shot himself.

Officers responding to calls of a person shot found the bodies shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Police didn't say what the motive was behind the shootings.

The second incident happened about an hour later at a home in the 18000 block of Southwest 355th Terrace in Florida City.

Police say Apolinar Piedra, 43, approached his wife, 36-year-old Yesenia Valencia Piedra, in the driveway of their home and an argument ensued.

Police say Apolinar shot Yesenia as she tried to flee. He left the scene and was found a short time later, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the area of Southwest 344th Street and US 1.

Police said the couple was estranged.

Both shootings are being investigated.
