Interrogation Tapes Show Suspects of Miami Nightclub Shooting

A hail of bullets rang out on a night that was supposed to be fun. The gunfire sent youngsters running into the street. NBC 6 has exclusively obtained interrogation tapes of the teens charged with shooting up a nightclub and sending 15 people to the hospital.

Prosecutors charged 17-year-old Will Campbell and 16-year-old Jamiroquai Young with attempted murder. Police say both are responsible for shooting up the Spot nightclub last month.

In the interrogation room footage, Campbell's mother sat with him before the detective walked in, saying tearfully to her son, "Hopefully they have cameras in this club and everything and they can see what's going on because this doesn't make sense to me. You are my only child, I cannot lose you to these streets, as hard as I try. Will, you just don't understand how hard it is."

But when Detective Eldys Diaz entered the room, the mother's fears were realized. Diaz laid out still photos for Campbell to see, and asked him about what happened at the club. Multiple witnesses had already identified Campbell as the shooter, but Diaz wanted to see what Campbell had to say.

"I heard shots go off," Campbell said. "Shots started flying. All through the club."

When Diaz asked if he saw who was shooting, Campbell said no, and claimed that he ran as fast as he could out of the club with all of the other patrons.

Diaz then told Campbell and his mother that witnesses had identified him.

"Put yourself in my shoes," Diaz said. "You interview 20 people and all of them give the same description of the shooter."

Police said the teen most seriously injured in the shooting was targeted because of a previous fight that had taken place at Norland High School.

Young was also interviewed by Diaz. Police had previously thought he was just Campbell's accomplice, but prosecutors later upgraded his charges. Young gave a similar account as Campbell, claiming he heard multiple shots but did not see a shooter.

Diaz ultimately concluded that the teens knew exactly who was doing the shooting. Both now face attempted murder charges, and will be tried as adults. They are currently being held without bond. It is unclear if Campbell or Young have attorneys.
