An intoxicated Dunedin man was arrested after deputies say he shot a hole into the city’s 200-foot water tower and caused it to leak.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Dunedin Country Club Golf Course after reports of gunfire.

Fitzgerald, who was found driving a car off a golf cart access road, had a high-powered .308 caliber rifle and a .45 caliber handgun in the car, the sheriff's office said. He told deputies he was looking for his lost dog and had the guns in case he ran into any coyotes, according to authorities.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said the City of Dunedin is working to repair the water tower, which holds about one million gallons of water.

It wasn't immediately known if Fitzgerald had an attorney.
