Jacksonville Boy, 13, Charged as Adult in Murder of Homeless Man

Prosecutors are charging a 13-year-old boy as an adult for the fatal shooting of a homeless man in Jacksonville.

State Attorney Angela Corey said Thursday that she decided to charge the minor as an adult with second-degree murder.

Police say the boy was 12 at the time of the shooting.

The boy is accused of killing 54-year-old Thomas Trent in July.

Police say surveillance video showed two young men running behind the strip mall where Trent's body was found with something pulled over their heads.

The Florida Times-Union reports that that suspect was identified by the friend after he was charged in a separate armed robbery and car theft case.
