Jagr Helps Panthers Extend Record Streak to Nine Games

The Panthers extended their franchise record win streak to nine games on Sunday

The Florida Panthers won for a ninth straight time with their 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday at BB&T Center.

Jaromir Jagr scored both goals for Florida in the win. The streak is a franchise record for Florida and is now quickly approaching the NHL record. That record which is held by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins is 17 games. One of the men on that team was Jagr, and came when he was relatively new to the league.

Before thinking of taking down that league record, the Panthers have more work to do. Thanks to this impressive run, Florida finds itself in first place in the Atlantic Division and second overall in the Eastern Conference. The Washington Capitals currently sit nine points ahead of Florida after dropping two games in a row.

Jagr has found the fountain of youth in Sunrise and does not look anything like a 43-year old while on the ice. The veteran keeps up with the young players around him and leads by example. With two goals in this game, Jagr now has 13 on the season which leads the team.

The first goal of the game came only 27 seconds into the day. Jagr was assisted on the quick score by Dmitry Kulikov and Jonathan Huberdeau. With a large crowd in the stands, the arena was rocking from the start. The early goal took some pressure off the Panthers and kept the momentum going from Saturday's exciting win.

After the Wild tied the game in the second period, Jagr took it upon himself to give his team back the lead. At the 8:52 mark of the third period, he did just that with the go-ahead goal. Jagr was assisted by Brandon Pirri and Dmitry Kulikov on the eventual game-winning score.

The Panthers will take a day off before heading into a road game against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.
