South Florida Jewish Community, Politicians React to Arrest in Threats Against Schools, Centers

As news broke of an arrest in the case of recent threats made against Jewish schools and centers across the world, South Florida’s Jewish community and politicians from across Florida are possibly beginning to feel some relief.

Officials at David Posnack Jewish Community Center in Davie, a location that has had numerous threats as recent as March 7th, would not comment to NBC 6 after news broke of a 19-year-old Israeli native - who also had U.S. citizenship – being arrested in the case.

U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, who along with Florida’s other Senator Marco Rubio have asked the Trump administration to take swift action against whoever is responsible, issued a statement saying that the FBI is working with Israeli authorities and that he has “asked the FBI to ensure that this is the same individual responsible for the recent threats made to centers in Florida.”

The suspect allegedly used a device to warp his voice while calling in the various threats. Officials say this case is not related to one involving a St. Louis man who was arrested this month for half a dozen similar threats in that area.

Officials have also not confirmed if the arrested teen is responsible for any of the threats called in to South Florida.
