Beach goers in Pinellas County over the weekend had quite a jumbo surprise for them: An elephant was on the beach enjoying itself in the Gulf of Mexico.
The elephant was taking a dip in the waters off Redington Beach on Saturday. The massive animal wasn’t just soaking up the sun, though. It was there for entertainment during a 60th birthday party for Claudia McCorkle.
It turns out that town commissioners had approved the request from McCorkle to have the animal at her beach home during a meeting in February. The town used a parking lot near the beach to load and unload the elephant.
