Jumbo's Restaurant Closing After Nearly 60 Years in Miami

Liberty City's iconic restaurant Jumbo's will close its doors for good Wednesday after nearly 60 years in business

Liberty City's iconic restaurant Jumbo's will close its doors for good Wednesday after nearly 60 years in business.

The 24-hour soul food spot has been on the corner on Northwest 7th Avenue and 75th Street since the 1950s, and was the first white-owned restaurant in Miami to employ and serve blacks.

The owner, Bobby Flam, says he wants to spend more time with his grandkids after running the restaurant for more than 45 years.

At the restaurant Wednesday morning, customers got their last taste of Jumbo's offerings.

"This was the famous place to come, day or night, so it is going to be missed," Henry Clark said.

"I am going to be in mourning and a lot of other people are going to be in mourning," Willie "Slim" Jackson said. "No place else to go, Jumbo's is the place to go years and years to come."

Jumbo's has been sold to a developer who plans to build affordable housing at the location.
