Kaaya Leads Canes Past Duke With 2 TDs

Brad Kaaya threw two touchdown passes including one in the 4th quarter on Saturday

The Miami Hurricanes improved to 3-2 on the year when they beat the Duke Blue Devils 22-10 on Saturday.

The win also moved Miami to 1-1 in the ACC and kept the Hurricanes undefeated at Sun Life Stadium this year. The two losses for UM came on the road at Louisville and in Nebraska. Thus far the only game for UM against a top 25 team came against the Cornhuskers.

Brad Kaaya threw two touchdown passes as part of a 226-yard day. One of those TDs was in the fourth quarter and sealed the victory for UM. The freshman quarterback was 21-35 on his passes and now has 12 touchdowns on the year.

Duke Johnson had a big day himself in the backfield with 152 yards on 25 carries. Johnson also added a touchdown of his own to give him four TDs total in 2014. Johnson has posted one TD in each game with only the opener at Louisville as an exception. His yardage in this one was also his highest total thus far through five games.

The TD passes were caught by Herb Waters and Joseph Yearby. Waters had himself a fine day with 81 yards on five catches. It was  the most productive day of the year for the junior who entered this game with a total of 51 yards in his last three contests.

The Miami defense also showed up with a pair of interceptions along the way. Denzel Perryman and Ladarius Gunter each recorded one INT. It was the first pick of the year for both of the seniors.

The Hurricanes fumbled away the ball twice but they won the overall turnover battle 3-2 as the Blue Devils fumbled one themselves to go along with the aforementioned interceptions.

Miami will head back on the road next Saturday for a game at Georgia Tech.
