Body of Missing Kayaker Recovered from Biscayne Bay

Officials say the body of a kayaker who went missing in Biscayne Bay on Sunday has been recovered.

The body was found just before 9 a.m. on Monday.

According to City of Miami Fire Rescue, two friends went kayaking without life vests near 115th Street in Biscayne Bay Sunday night.

The kayak started taking on water and began to sink. One of the kayakers swam to a nearby island, but soon realized his friend was not with him.

The kayaker told officials that the missing man does not know how to swim, but that remains under investigation.

The friend said he hung onto the kayak for about an hour trying to flag down passing boats. He was eventually spotted by a boat, and authorities were called.

Fire Department officials say the water is about 9-feet deep in the area where the kayaker went missing.
