Key West's Southernmost Point Marker Restored After Hurricane Irma

Key West’s iconic Southernmost Point marker was fully restored on Monday after being damaged when Hurricane Irma struck the archipelago.

The red, yellow, black and white concrete marker that resembles a marine navigational buoy is located beside the Atlantic Ocean and denotes the southernmost point of land in the continental United States.

The Florida Keys News Bureau reports that the City of Key West hired Danny Acosta, the original artist, and artist Henry DelValle to repaint the graphics on the Florida Key's most photographed tourism icon.

"For Key West to really recover, we had to have this monument back painted again so people could come here again and take their picture and feel like something special when they visited," Key West Mayor Craig Cates said.
