5-Year Old Forgotten on School Bus for Hours

Officials said boy was left in bus yard instead of dropped off at school

Another South Florida child had to be hospitalized after being left on a school bus for two hours Monday afternoon, the Palm Beach Post reported.

The 5-year-old boy is a kindergarten student at Benoist Farms Elementary School in West Palm Beach.

He was found around noon at the school district's bus yard after he was supposed to be dropped off at the school, Palm Beach County School District officials said.

It's unclear how the bus driver missed the child, but operators are supposed to check the bus before leaving a school and again at the bus depot, officials said.

The incident dredges up memories of a similar, deadly situation that occurred last year in Palm Beach County when 2-year-old Haile Brockington was forgotten inside a steaming daycare center van in August.

The toddler died and the daycare center owner and van driver have both been charged in the death.

The unnamed child was reportedly in good condition when he was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center for observation.

He has since been released to his parents, school officials said.
