Large Bird Collides With Police Helicopter, Strikes Pilot in the Face: Cops

Traffic in the area was not affected.

A Miami-Dade Police helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing near Florida's Turnpike Tuesday after a bird collided with its windshield and hit the pilot’s face, authorities said.

The A STAR 350 B3 was in the air when the “large bird” struck it, according to police. The helicopter landed at the Snapper Creek Service Plaza near Southwest 120th Street just before noon.

Aerial footage showed another police helicopter and several police cars at the scene as authorities evaluated the damage.

The pilot suffered minor cuts to his face and was transported to a hospital in stable condition. Officials said this type of collision is not unusual.

Traffic was not affected.
