There’s one Olympic event catching many a London-2012-fan this side of the pond: fatigue.

Staying up late for gymnastics, volleyball or water polo can be a trial.

“It’s keeping me awake but I’m dying to go to bed,” said Carlos Gonzalez, a contractor, who admits dozing off during Tuesday night’s competition. Roars on television would just “wake me right back up,” he said.

Jeff Schatzman is a fishing captain who has stayed up past his bedtime for the last week and a half. He loves Michael Phelps, and track and field.

“I wish I could run that fast,” he said. “Last night it was one o’clock … by then I’m ready to pass out.”

Pass out is exactly what Teddy Orozco, Jr. did last night after watching some wrestling. He didn’t stay up late with his dad to watch soccer.

“I really wanted to,” said the high school wrestler, “but if you don’t sleep well, you’re not gonna do well the next day.”

His father, Teddy Orozco Sr., sees the games differently. “It gives me energy,” he said. “Watching all those athletes work that hard.”
