Latos Exits Early in Another Loss For Marlins

Mat Latos was hit in the leg in the third inning which ended his day early in Miami's loss

The Miami Marlins fell to the Atlanta Braves by a final of 5-3 in a game that featured a leg injury for starter Mat Latos on Saturday.

Latos was hit by a batted ball back on the mound and was diagnosed with a contusion on his left leg. The veteran is listed as day-to-day but is expected to be ready for his next start. Prior to exiting, Latos allowed five runs including a grand slam. On the year, the right-hander is now 1-4 with a 5.54 E.R.A.

The loss for Miami was its fifth in the last six games. After running off a hot stretch of games, the Marlins have had a string of difficulty. Miami is now 16-21 on the year and has had trouble with the Braves all season along.

After Latos was forced to exit, the Marlins turned to Tom Koehler for some relief help. Koehler was sent to the bullpen in preparation for the return of Henderson Alvarez on Sunday. The right-hander did a good job of keeping his team in the game with three shutout innings. Koehler allowed allowed two hits and struck out four.

Giancarlo Stanton stayed hot with his third home run in two days. Much like his recent blasts, this one went far and was a no-doubter. The homer which was Stanton's 11th of the season went an estimated 475 feet.

Dee Gordon knocked in a run in the bottom of the ninth with a single. The hit was Gordon's 61st of the season which leads all of baseball.

Miami will try to avoid the sweep on Sunday when Alvarez opposes Shelby Miller.
