Lauderhill Cop Arrested For Violating Domestic Violence Restraining Order: BSO

A Lauderhill police officer is under arrest and accused of violating an active domestic violence restraining order, Broward County Sheriff's Office confirms.

Officer Michael Bigwood, 37, of the Lauderhill Police Department, was arrested Wednesday.

According to the complaint affidavit from BSO, Bigwood showed up at the victim's residence just before midnight Wednesday unannounced and uninvited, and banged on her front door demanding to speak with her.

The report says Bigwood texted and called the victim numerous times prior to showing up, despite an active restraining order she has against him.

In a recorded control phone call, Bigwood allegedly admits to showing up at the victim's house and says he had been drinking alcohol. Bigwood is also allegedly heard apologizing a number of times.

The victim has an active temporary restraining order against Bigwood which has been in place since December of last year. In that order, Bigwood is specifically mandated to stay away from her place of residence.

Bigwood is reportedly a sergeant in training for the department, and has been employed with Lauderhill Police since his early 20's.

Lauderhill Police released a statement Wednesday saying that Bigwood has been placed on administrative leave without pay.

According to the statement, Bingwood had been on paid administrative leave since January relative to the domestic violence injunction.

Lauderhill Police says they will have no further information to share on the matter pending the outcome of the criminal investigation from the Broward County Sheriff's Office and the Lauderhill Police Department's internal investigation.
