Heroic Woman Kicks Down Doors to Save Family, Neighbors from Fire

A Lauderhill woman returned home from work Friday night to find her duplex home on fire.

"I went to check inside, smoke was everwhere," said April, who gave only her first name. "My family. My son and his girlfriend and the whole house was on fire and I saved my nighbor on the back and the neighbor on the side.

When she saw the fire, April started banging and kicking down the doors in an effort to save her family and her neighbors.

"The door was shut and locked and she had to bust open the door," said Savannah German, who was rescued in the fire.

According to April's son, she "woke us up and basically she saved our lives. We had just gone to sleep two hours ago."

Thanks to the April's heroism, all 14 people, 12 adults and 2 children, inside the building were able to escape safely.

The Red Cross provided emergency assistance for 3 families displaced by the fire.
