A lawsuit challenging a significant expansion of Florida's main private school voucher program is being revived.
A judge last month dismissed a lawsuit challenging an expansion of the program that pays for children from low-income families to attend private schools. Chief Circuit Judge Charles Francis ruled that a Lee County social studies teacher did not have the legal standing to file it.
Francis, however, said that Tom Faasse and the state's teacher union could amend the lawsuit if they wished.
On Wednesday, the lawsuit was refiled with three parents from Miami-Dade County joining Faasse in the lawsuit being backed by the Florida Education Association.
The lawsuit contends that legislators violated a constitutional requirement that bills must cover just one subject. Legislators included the voucher expansion in a lengthy education bill.
