Legally Blind Man Struck by Hit-And-Run Driver in Miami

Police searching for driver who struck pedestrian and fled the scene

A legally blind man is in critical condition after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Miami Monday night, police said.

The incident happened at about 9:15 p.m. Monday in the area of Northwest 7th Avenue and Northwest 19th Street, Miami Police spokesman Sgt. Luis Taborda said.

Taborda said the man, identified as 70-year-old Charlie Frank Kimball, was struck by a car, believed to be a purple Ford Taurus, which was captured on surveillance video fleeing the scene.

Kimball was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was in critical condition.

Police are looking for the Taurus, which likely has damage to its front, Taborda said.

Mavis Kimball said she last saw her husband when he left for the store Monday night. He ventures out every day, she said.

She is begging the person who hit her husband to please come forward.

“We don’t know who hit him, and I hope somebody will say something,” she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
