Life Sentence for Man Convicted of Kidnapping, Rape in Miami

A man convicted of kidnapping and raping a woman in Miami will be spending the rest of his life behind bars.

Terrence Jefferson, 36, was given the life sentence at a hearing in Miami-Dade Friday.

Authorities say he terrorized a northeast Miami neighborhood for months. Women locked themselves in their homes not knowing if he would be around the next corner.

But not anymore. Now, Jefferson is permanently off the streets. Back in 2013, a woman told police she was raped by Jefferson in a dark blue Chevy. And then Jefferson tried again with a 9-year-old girl.

But the girl got away and was able to memorize the license plate of the car he was in, police said.

"This little girl was instrumental in giving us the tag of the car," Miami Police Chief Manuel Orosa said. "She would go around playing games with her father of identifying tags and tags and tags."

Prosecutors say Jefferson, a career criminal, attempted other abductions and rapes before getting caught.
