A family in Palm Beach County is calling a group of lifeguards heroes after they saved the life of their toddler following a medical emergency at a pool.
Christina Martinez told NBC affiliate WPTV-TV she was at the pool in Wellington on August 9th for her sons and was holding her 20-month old daughter in her lap when she had what officials called an atypical febrile seizure.
Martinez said she called 911, but before paramedics arrived the four lifeguards sprang into action and hooked the child up to an oxygen tank.
”We have a tremendous staff that is trained at the top of the level of life guarding,” said aquatics complex supervisor Theodore Etter.
”I was so grateful that the seizure happened here because if it didn’t happen here I don’t know what would have happened with her,” added Martinez.
Etter said his staff trains at least twice a week for just this type of moment – one that could mean the difference between life and death.

”The key to a safe environment at an aquatics complex is continuous in-service training so you can simulate the best you can when an emergency comes up,” said Etter.
