Little Havana Celebrates Calle Ocho Street Festival

It's Calle Ocho Street Festival weekend!

Since 1978, Carnaval Miami has celebrated Latin culture by filling the streets of Little Havana with food, fun and of course, the world-famous Calle Ocho Festival.

The 39th annual Calle Ocho Street Festival kicks off Sunday morning at 11 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m. This year's Calle Ocho Festival will take place on Southwest Eighth Street from Southwest 27th Avenue to Southwest Eighth Avenue.

Motorists should anticipate tons of traffic, and take alternate routes if possible.

Here are a few tips on getting around this Sunday:

  • Starting on Saturday at 11:30 p.m., all eastbound traffic on Southwest Eighth Street from Southwest 27th Avenue to Southwest Seventh Avenue will be CLOSED. If you're traveling eastbound on Southwest Eighth Street, you'll be detoured either north or southbound on Southwest 27th Avenue.
  • Southwest Seventh Street will remain OPEN headed westbound until Southwest Eighth Avenue, then detoured north.
  • Residents who live in the area will be allowed access via "local traffic only" to Southwest Seventh Street on the north side, or on the south side of Southwest Ninth Street
  • If you take a Miami-Dade Transit Bus that normally travels along Southwest Eighth Street, you WILL be detoured! Be sure to check with Miami-Dade Transit for further information on how to get around

Miami Police officers will be stationed along the closure areas to help drivers get around the closures.
