Local Olympic Guide: What to Watch Saturday

With two days left in the Olympics, Team USA is hoping to pocket a couple more gold medals

As the Olympic Games come to a close, several local athletes are still fighting to come home with gold.

Sylvia Fowles of Liberty City and the USA Women’s Basketball team will vie for a fifth straight gold medal Saturday when they play France at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed Live on NBC.

On Thursday, the team turned up its defensive pressure and beat Australia 86-73.

Fort Lauderdale’s Sanya Richards-Ross will aim to medal once again in the women’s 4 x 400 meter relay final. The event will be streamed live at 3:25 p.m. ET on NBCOlympics.com.

Richards-Ross failed to medal in the 200 meter final but took the gold in the women’s 400 meter.

Foluke Akinradewo, also of Plantation, and the Women’s USA Volleyball team will play Brazil at 1:30 p.m. ET in the finals.

The Americans are top-ranked. They took over the top spot in the world rankings at the end of 2011, ending Brazil's four-year run. The women qualified for the Olympics in November with a silver-medal finish in the FIVB World Cup.

The team is favored to win their first Olympic gold.
