Forecasters are keeping an eye on an area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico that has a medium-to-high chance of becoming a tropical cyclone.
The system was in the southwestern Bay of Campeche Monday as it headed slowly eastward to east-northeastward, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
It could affect weather in South Florida by the weekend.
Forecasters give the system a 50 percent chance of forming over the next two days and a 60 percent chance of forming over the next five days.
