Lyft and UberX have faced a tough time trying to get established in Miami-Dade County, but the county commission took an initial step towards legalizing ride-for-hire companies, according to the Miami Herald.
The board voted 10-2 to move forward with Commissioner Esteban Bovo’s legislation to legalize the two companies, the Herald reported. Both Lyft and UberX have been operating in Miami-Dade illegally for at least a month.
The companies have faced pushback from cities all over the country and from taxi drivers in most cities. In Miami-Dade, the Herald reported a transportation committee hasn’t been able to pass previous legislation to benefit the two companies and won’t take up anymore legislation until September.
