Magic Gets an Assist From Zo in AIDS Fight

Magic Johnson Healthcare Center opens in Miami Beach

It was a magical day in the fight against AIDS Tuesday as Earvin "Magic" Johnson and friend and former Heat star Alonzo Mourning were on hand to cut the ribbon at the new AHF Magic Johnson Healthcare Center in Miami Beach.

The state-of-the-art center, located on the campus of Jackson North Hospital, provides HIV/AIDS care to about 570 patients.

The center was named in Johnson's honor, for all his work in HIV/AIDS research. Johnson is the chairman and founder of the "Magic Johnson Foundation," which was founded by the NBA legend in 1991.

"It feels good to know that my passion to serve Urban America has not gone unnoticed," Johnson said in a statement. "AIDS Healthcare Foundation is a wonderful partner, and I look forward to continuing our efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS."

Mourning is no slouch in the giving department himself. He runs Alonzo Mourning Charities, Inc. in South Florida.
