1 Killed in Crash Involving Semi Truck That Shut Down US-1 in Southwest Miami-Dade

A fatal accident involving a semi-truck and a car had a section of US-1 shut down in both directions in Southwest Miami-Dade Tuesday.

Chopper 6 was over the scene shortly before 5 a.m. near Southwest 146th Street in Palmetto Bay, where a Publix truck was seen in the middle of the road with a car - which had been traveling north when it hit the truck - heavily damaged underneath it.

Crews worked in an attempt to remove the driver from the vehicle, who was pronounced dead on the scene. The car's passenger was taken to Jackson South Trauma Center, where their condition is unknown.

The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.

Drivers were advised to take alternate routes as the road was closed at 144th Street to the north and 152nd Street to the south.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
