Man, 68, Charged With Arson in Wilton Manors Bar Fire

A 68-year-old man was behind bars Thursday after authorities said he was caught on camera setting a Wilton Manors bar on fire.

Julio "The Rabbi" Edwards is facing charges including arson, burglary and possession of marijuana following his arrest Wednesday, Wilton Manors Police said.

Edwards was being held without bond Thursday and it was unknown if he has an attorney.

Police and Fire Rescue responded to Tropics Piano Bar and Restaurant at 2000 Wilton manors Drive Wednesday after the manager found red ashes at the rear door and smelled smoke, officials said. Officers found the rear door, door frame and wood fence had been damaged by fire.

When police looked at the restaurant's surveillance tape, it showed a man throwing a cup of liquid on the fence and door then light it on fire, officials said.

Employees of the restaurant looked at the tape and were able to identify the suspect as Edwards, a patron of the bar, officials said. Employees said they had requested a trespass warning for Edwards on Sunday, police said.
