Man Accused of Fatally Stabbing Neighbor Held Without Bond

Dorian W. Hinkson, 51, faces a charge of second-degree murder.

A man was being held without bond on Monday after being accused of fatally stabbing a Liberty City neighbor who had asked him to lower his music over the weekend.

Dorian W. Hinkson, 51, faces a charge of second-degree murder and was booked into jail after the Saturday stabbing, online records show.

Miami Police say that at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, 24-year-old Phillip Arthur asked Hinkson to lower his music because his wife was trying to sleep.

Hinkson became enraged, grabbed a knife and stabbed Arthur once in the chest in front of his family in the courtyard of their Liberty City complex, located at 1319 66th Street, police said.

"They were outside, kids we're playing, this man grabbed a knife and stabbed the neighbor because his music was too loud," Miami Police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes said.

Hinkson was taken into custody, and it wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.

Arthur died after arriving at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Unit.

The slaying happened at the Liberty Square apartments, one of the oldest public housing projects in Miami. It has been the scene of shootouts and murders in recent years.

Donna Harrison, who lives in the building next to Arthur's, said she is concerned about her five kids playing outside.

"He was a young guy," she said of Arthur. "He had three kids, now they're left without a father."

Arthur’s three children are with their mother in southwest Miami-Dade, relatives said.
