A Doral man found himself behind bars after police say he pretended to be a doctor while performing procedures and prescribing medications to patients.

Jose Ramirez was arrested and charged with two counts, including practicing medicine without a license and posing as a physician.

According to Doral Police, a physician’s assistant who worked with Ramirez at the Med-Clinic Healthcare Center located off NW 108th Avenue and 58th Street contacted authorities after growing suspicious when she was asked to sign prescriptions created by Ramirez.

An investigation found that Ramirez was not a licensed provider, but performed procedures such as infiltration, wart removal, suturing of lacerations and administering IV medications. Police say he used the name of a licensed doctor when dealing with patients.

Investigators believe he had ties with the immigrant community in South Florida and may have treated patients who are reluctant to come forward due. Anyone who may have been treated is asked to call Doral Police.
