Man Arrested In Georgia For Miami Beach Hit And Run From October 2015

Miami Beach Police announced the arrest of a man in Georgia for the October 2015 hit and run death of a tourist along Collins Avenue.

23-year-old Frank Strachan Jr. was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals at an apartment in Marietta, GA. He is currently being held and awaiting extradition to Florida.

Police say that Strachan Jr. is responsible for the death of Andrew Hamilton, a tourist visiting from the United Kingdom, on October 13th.

Officials alleged that Strachan Jr. left a garage at 15th Street and Collins Avenue at a high rate of speed. An officer soon followed, which led to him going faster and weaving in and out of traffic. The officer did not continue chasing, but notified other officers of the situation.

Witnesses estimated the silver BMW that Strachan Jr. was driving was going between 70 and 100 miles per hour when it hit Hamilton, who died instantly at the intersection of Collins Avenue and 11th Street. Strachan Jr. fled from the vehicle and has been on the run ever since.

He also has numerous fraud charges in other states, including new charges brought by Georgia after his arrest. It is likely he will be extradited to Florida to face vehicular homicide charges before any other state.
