Man Arrested for Sexual Assault on Elderly Woman in Deerfield Beach: BSO

A man is under arrest in connection with an alleged sexual assault of an elderly woman in Deerfield Beach late Sunday night, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded late Sunday to the woman's home after hearing reports of a possible sexual assault. Neighbors tell NBC 6 South Florida that each of the units at their complex come equipped with emergency pull cord alarms, and that the victim pulled hers during the attack. 

The alarm alerted neighbors, including Eric Maly who lives on the same floor as the victim, to come to her aid. There, they found Clyde Alvims Leandre still inside the home and a struggle ensued among Leandre and neighbors.

Police soon arrived and Leandre also engaged in a strugle with the officers, leaving two of them injured. Leandre was finally taken into custody, BSO says.

The woman was taken to Broward North where she received care for a variety of injuries. Leandre was also taken to Broward North for medical attention.

Leandre has an extensive criminal history in Broward County dating back to 2010. He's now facing charges for burglary, sexual battery, resisting arrest with violence and false imprisonment.

Both deputies were also treated at Broward North as they were injured as Leandre attempted to resist arrest.
