Man Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Miami-Dade

A Pembroke Pines man has been arrested in a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in northwest Miami-Dade, police said.

Raul Gonzalez Galvez, 55, is facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash causing death, driving with a license suspended causing death and careless driving causing death after surrendering to authorities Monday, Miami-Dade Police said. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.

The crash happened just after 5 a.m. on June 21 at the Northwest 3700 block of N. River Drive. When officers arrived, they found a man lying in the roadway unresponsive. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the victim's injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle and dragged along the roadway for almost 200 feet.

The driver had fled the scene but a portion of his vehicle was left behind, according to an arrest report. Video surveillance from the scene showed the vehicle fleeing, the report said.

Police later received an anonymous tip that led them to Galvez, whose car had damage consistent with striking the victim, the report said.

Galvez, who had his license suspended on June 5, admitted he was driving the car when he struck the victim, panicked and fled the scene, the report said.
