Man Arrested in New York in FHP Trooper Hit-and-Run in Broward

Donnell Reddy was arrested Friday in Queens, New York, in the May 25 hit-and-run

Authorities have arrested a man in New York who they say was behind the wheel of a car that ran over a Florida Highway Patrol trooper in Broward County and fled the scene last month in an incident that was caught on camera.

Donnell Reddy was arrested Friday in Queens, New York, in the May 25 hit-and-run that happened in the southbound lanes of the southbound Florida Turnpike exit to Hollywood Boulevard, FHP officials said.

Surveillance footage showed Trooper Arsenio Caballero being struck by a white BMW 6 series that drove off after the driver had been speaking to another trooper. Caballero had been assisting in a seatbelt enforcement detail and was walking across the exit ramp to the west shoulder of the roadway when he was struck.

Caballero was sent flying over the hood of the vehicle, resulting in lacerations to his head and a broken arm, officials said. He is still recovering from his injuries.

Reddy faces charges including attempted murder, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and leaving the scene of a crash. He is awaiting extradition to Florida, and attorney information wasn't available.

"The safety of every member of the Florida Highway Patrol is and will always be my number one priority," FHP Director Col. Gene S. Spaulding said in a statement. "I commend our troopers for the hard work and dedication they provide the residents and visitors to the state of Florida each day."
