Authorities in the Florida Keys arrested a man for attacking a woman, who claimed he did it out of love.
The 63-year-old victim told Monroe County Sheriff's deputies she was inside her Islamorada apartment just after midnight Sunday when a man, identified as 66-year-old William Roberts, knocked on her back door.
Roberts, from Tennessee, was wearing a sweater he had taken from the victim's vehicle. The woman told police she had never seen Roberts before and had no idea who he was.
Deputies said Roberts then began beating her with a stick. The victim asked him why he was beating her, and he told her he was doing it because he loved her.
As she struggled to get away, the victim tore off the sweater. Deputies said he had nothing else on besides a pair of underwear. Roberts backed away from her, and the woman ran back inside her apartment to call police.
Roberts was found a short distance away and arrested. He is charged with aggravated battery and burglary of a vehicle.
It is unclear whether Roberts has an attorney.
