A man was hospitalized and a woman was sexually assaulted in a frightening early morning home invasion in Northwest Miami-Dade Wednesday, police said.

The incident happened just after 4 a.m. at a home in the area of Northwest 25th Avenue and 93rd Street, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said.

Zabaleta said the crooks, who were wearing masks, took miscellaneous items including cash from the house, and attacked a man and woman who were home at the time.

After pistol whipping the 65-year-old man, the suspects made the 35-year-old woman tie him up with duct tape before they sexually assaulted her, Zabaleta said.

The woman was able to call police once the two suspects fled the scene, Zabaleta said.

The man suffered a head injury and was taken to North Shore Medical Center where he was in stable condition, Zabaleta said.

Police are trying to determine whether the suspects were armed when they entered the home or took a gun belonging to the male victim.

No one has been arrested and police are still investigating the incident.
