Man Beat, Tied Up Woman He Met on Craigslist: Boynton Beach Police

A Sunrise man is facing several charges after authorities say he beat and tied up a woman he met through Craigslist.

Julian Ryals, 38, was arrested Tuesday on aggravated battery, kidnapping and brand theft of a motor vehicle in the incident that happened on Sept. 9 in Boynton Beach, police said.

He was being held at the Palm Beach County Jail on Wednesday on $24,500 bond and it was unknown if he has an attorney.

According to a police report, Ryals met the 48-year-old woman through the Craigslist "casual encounters" section and two started texting and talked on the phone.

The woman wasn't comfortable with meeting Ryals in Broward, so she told him to come to her Boynton Beach home and Ryals showed up in a taxi, the report said.

The two had consensual sex but when the woman said she had to leave to visit her mother at the hospital, Ryals got mad and refused to leave, the report said.

Ryals punched the woman and started to choke her to the point of passing out, according to the report. He then tied her up and refused to let her go.

The woman managed to escape out a back door and ran to a neighbor's home. When officers arrived they found she had a swollen and bloody face and bruises on her ribs and scalp, the report said.

According to the report, Ryals also took the woman's mother's car, a white Mini-Cooper. Police were able to track Ryals down with the phone number he used to call and text the woman and he was arrested in Lauderhill, the report said.

Ryals has been arrested 29 times in the state of Florida since 1997 and has been convicted for violating injunctions for protection against domestic violence and battery, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
