Man Charged With Making Bomb Threats to Doral Restaurants: Police

A Miami man found himself behind bars after police say he called 911 and said bombs would explode at three restaurants in Doral – including one he worked at.

Demond James was taken into custody and charged with three felony counts of making bomb threats along with two other felonies.

Police officials say in their report that James made the calls shortly after 8 p.m. on September 15th, saying the bombs had been placed at his place of employment, Dragonfly located on NW 87th Avenue and 52nd Street, along with Bulla Restaurant one block north and Piola Restaurant on NW 87th Avenue and 19th Street.

Officers evacuated all three locations as well as some around them, but no devices were found.

The call was traced back to James, who admitted to placing the calls because he wanted to kill himself – telling police he planned to engage officers into shooting him if the bombs didn’t go off.

The 39-year-old has a criminal record that includes prior arrests for bomb threats.
