Man Chokes, Bites Lips Off Kittens: Deputies

Angel Vega Roman, 28, was arrested on animal cruelty charges, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office

A Palm Coast man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly choked a kitten and bit the lips off another, authorities said.

Angel Vega Roman, 28, faces charges of animal cruelty, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. He remained in jail Wednesday on $100,000 bond, jail records showed.

Roman was arrested Saturday after he confessed to a friend that he had “accidentally choked a kitten” and “bit the lips off one of the kittens and burnt its ear and whiskers with a lighter,” according to an arrest affidavit.

The alleged abuse occurred earlier this month, the report said.

Roman told officials with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office that he was depressed because his girlfriend was no longer around, the report said.

The kittens belonged to his roomates and the kittens’ owner told deputies Roman had been spending a lot of time with the animals, officials said. One of the kittens was found dead a short time later but the owners believed it died naturally, a report said.

The surviving kitten was released to animal control who will cover the animal’s medical expenses, the report said.

It wasn't immediately known if Roman had an attorney.
