    A Plantation man is facing charges after police say he dragged an officer through a parking lot before leading authorities on a high-speed chase up the wrong way on Interstate 95 early Friday. NBC 6's Myriam Masihy speaks with Florida Highway Patrol Spokesman Joe Sanchez.

    A Plantation man is facing charges after police say he dragged an officer through a parking lot before leading authorities on a high-speed chase up the wrong way on Interstate 95 early Friday.

    Thomas H. Eagan, 39, is charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding and grand theft auto in the incident that began just after 5 a.m., Miami Gardens Police said.

    According to police, an officer spotted a suspicious car being driven by Eagan (pictured below) at a parking lot at 17021 Northwest 27th Avenue. When the officer ran the license plate, it came up as stolen, police said.

    Police at the scene where a man who dragged a Miami Gardens officer and fled the wrong way up I-95 was arrested.

    Eagan approached the officer, who tried to get information about the car, when a struggle ensued and Eagan jumped into the car and started driving off, dragging the officer through the parking lot, police said.

    A police pursuit began and Eagan began driving northbound in the southbound express lane of I-95, and officers terminated the pursuit, police said.

    Eagan continued to flee but was caught by Miami-Dade Police at Northwest 135th Street and Northwest 13th Avenue.

    The officer who was dragged sustained minor injuries. A traffic crash caused by Eagan is also being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol, police said.

    "A vehicle, which was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-95, collided with a motorcycle. The passenger of the motorcycle sustained critical injuries and was taken to the trauma center, said Joe Sanchez, FHP spokesman.
